Description
This summer you can visit with Library staff at Read At the Market, a monthly event at Urbana's Market at the Square, located at the corner of Illinois & Vine Streets in downtown Urbana. Enjoy a story on the Magic Reading Carpet, get some reading suggestions (we always have suggestions), pick up a free balloon, and learn about upcoming fall programs (Hint: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"). We'll have unique activities on the first Saturday of each month for everyone in the family!

In September, Read at the Market we'll help kick-off the USD #116 school year with Battle of the Books trivia.

Join us for a spirited and energetic drumming and dance performance for all ages. Every September a group of some of the most talented performance artists from West Africa come to Urbana for Midwest Mandeng, a festival celebrating West African drum and dance. In this performance, some of our artists will share traditional rhythms and dances and introduce you to the arts and culture of Guinea and Mali. Featured performers will include Bolokada Conde, Youssouf Koumbassa, Moussa Traore, Djeneba Sako, Fode Bangoura, Marietou Camara, Abass Camara, and Djibril Camara. A free all-ages event.

Get jazzed at the Library this summer! Sign up for Read to the Rhythm and have a rockin' good time in the Library reading books and magazines, playing games, and having fun at our fun programs.

Read to the Rhythm is for children through grade 5—those being read to and those reading on their own. Every time you read at least 15 minutes, color in a piano key on your reading log. Bring your completed log to the Library to receive a free book and other goodies.

But don’t stop there—keep reading! For each additional reading log you complete, you will receive another free book.
