Description
Enjoy conversation, food, and music at this closing reception for "Scenes of Downtown," the current dual-site exhibition of the Urbana Public Arts program. "Scenes of Downtown" is a collection of Christopher Evans' illustrated works exploring Downtown Urbana and its people in a wide variety of settings--from cafes to public parks, music venues to markets. All ages are welcome at this celebration of Chris' artwork.

Christopher Evans is a local illustrator, curator, muralist, and sculptor whose work includes landscapes, portraiture, and architecture. An Urbana resident who studied art at Parkland College and the University of Illinois, Chris' art is displayed in many downtown Urbana locations. Chris serves on the Independent Media Center's Board of Directors and occasionally writes for the online magazine, Smile Politely.

Artist of the Corridor is a dual-site exhibition with artworks displayed at the City of Urbana and The Urbana Free Library sponsored by the Urbana Public Arts Program.

Drag Queen Story Hour returns! This fun and fabulous all-ages event features local drag queens reading children's stories and doing crafts. Expect sparkles, glamorous dress-up, and a friendly atmosphere.

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) was developed by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions. Many libraries host DQSR events as a way of celebrating diversity, building empathy, and helping to curb bullying of LGBTQ kids.

This event is co-sponsored by the UP Center of Champaign County.

Welcome to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - a year-round reading program for children ages birth to five years. It's the fun, exciting, and free way to start children on the path to success.

One of the most reliable predictors of school success is being read to during early childhood. The Library would like to help support you as you prepare your child for kindergarten. Most importantly, sharing books with children promotes a lifelong love of books and reading.
