Alternate storyline in a favorite manga series of mine. The only unsettling aspect of this storyline is some aspects of abuse early on in the main characters' relationship (i.e. he's so sad that he almost kills me, poor guy). He is redeemable, however, and the female character doesn't let herself get pushed around.
